Thyssen Mining has operated in North and South America since 1960.  It is part of the Thyssen Schachtbau Group of Companies whose parent, Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH of Germany, has operated since the late 1800’s.  Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH is recognized around the world as one of the pre-eminent names in mine construction and has a network of companies operating internationally around the world.

Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH originally started working in North America in 1960 through a joint venture company called Associated Mining Construction ("AMC").  AMC was formed to sink shafts in the newly developing Saskatchewan potash industry, using freezing techniques imported from Germany.  During the next decade, the company sunk over 9 major shafts in the province.

In 1972, with the potash industry maturing, AMC was restructured, taken over by Thyssen Schachtbau and its name changed to Thyssen Mining as Thyssen Schachtbau took 100 percent control of AMC.  The company diversified into other areas of the mining industry, and expanded in western Canada.  Expansion included increasing the type of contracting work performed and the minerals worked in, and Thyssen Mining became a full service underground mining contractor for the North American mining industry.

In the 1980’s and 1990’s, the company continued to expand into Canada and the United States.  With this many years of experience and an excellent staff of hard working employees under its belt,  it's no wonder that Thyssen Mining is today the premier contractor in the mining industry.
